Awarding Organisation Clients
Quartz Clients
The following
organisations have chosen and implemented the Quartz system:
 |
Ascentis
was originally established in 1975 as OCNW (Open College
North West), the first ‘Open College’ in the UK. Ascentis
is both a QCA approved national awarding body and a Quality
Assurance Agency (QAA)-licensed Access Validating Agency for Access
to Higher Education.
Centres and their learners are offered a
comprehensive ladder of opportunities, starting at Pre-Entry
programmes and progressing to QAA-recognised Access to HE
qualifications or professional Further Education Teaching
Certificates. |
| ActiveIQ
is a dynamic Awarding Body within the Active Leisure sector
designing qualifications that support clearly defined career
pathways relevant to health, fitness, sport and recreation. In
excess of 34 accredited qualifications from Entry Level to Level 4
are offered and these can be accessed nationally and internationally
through over 250 approved training providers. |
 |
 |
Lantra Awards, the
awarding body arm of the Lantra Sector Skills Council, is a
nationally recognised Awarding Body offering national qualifications
as well as technical awards and
customised provision to accredit in-house training. Lantra
specialises in qualifications and training for people in the
land-based and environmental sector; but also offer provision for
the voluntary and construction sectors. |
| University of
the Arts London Awarding Body (UAL) - is a new awarding
body offering specialist qualifications in the Arts, Design and
Communication Sector. A new Foundation Diploma in Art and Design
(FAD) was redesigned as an overall Level 4 course in 2007. Both a
Level 3 and Level 4 FAD qualification are now offered and work is
ongoing to further extend uptake of the FAD qualifications and to
develop new specialist qualifications that meet the needs of the
sector. |

| In August 2009
Agored Cymru became an Awarding Organisation in the QCF and
changed its name from OCN Wales. It also operates within the Quality
Assured Lifelong Learning (QALL) Pillars of CQFW and develops
qualifications that are uniquely tailored to meet the needs of
learners in Wales. In particular Agored Cymru seeks to make a
difference to individuals, who may have had, or are having
difficulty engaging with traditional learning. |
We are working with the British Horseracing Education and Standards Trust
(BHEST) at the moment to prepare for their implementation of the Quartz
system for early 2010.
 |
BHEST is a Government
recognised Awarding Body for a range of qualifications in the
racing, breeding, equine and farriery industries. BHEST also manages
racing's Education Programme, a scheme developed to open horse
racing to a new, young audience through the use of exciting and
informative educational activities based on National Curriculum. |
Other work for Awarding Organisations
For the National Open College Network and its constituent OCNs we
developed an Information and IT Strategy and were subsequently commissioned
to develop an operational system "OPUS" which we implemented across the 28
constituent OCNs. (See 'Development
of the Quartz system').
For a consortium of four awarding bodies we developed an on-line unit
bank providing secure web-based access to units for the organisations and
providing them with a key tool in their development and management of
qualifications.
For North Wales OCN we carried out a strategic review of partial achievement tracking.
We have provided wider IT support for two of our awarding organisation
clients. For example helping with resource planning and recruitment
for technical staff, establishing local IT infrastructure, managing and
rationalising 3rd party technical services and support arrangements to
simplify and enable cost savings, providing support and development for
websites and electronic communications.
We regularly represent clients at national settings on matters relating
to information and IT.
