Integration with local & national systems
Designed for business agility and interoperation
The heart of the Quartz solution is its ‘web-services’ engine: a
function of Quartz being built using the industry standard ‘Services
Oriented Architecture’ (SoA). The ‘web services’ engine provides
all Quartz’s business functions to users via both the ‘smart client’
interface and the QuartzWeb interface (the Quartz Portal). The ‘web
services’ engine can also deliver those functions, subject to
authentication and authorisation, to other internal, or external,
business systems.
This use of an SoA architecture, whilst rooted in technical
considerations, has a direct impact on the business. It enables
changes to made more quickly and more reliably, providing agility,
integration, and operation as part of the intelligent web. This has
proven to be a significant business benefit for organisations using
Quartz.
National integration
We have been able to respond rapidly to requirements for
integration with national services, based on the Quartz technical
architecture and underlying data model.
- Diploma Aggregation Service: Quartz provides management of
results submission to the Diploma Aggregation Service (DAS) for
Component Awarding Bodies (CABs). The integration is fully
automated through the DAS web-services ‘API’.
- MIAP Compliance: Quartz provides Unique Learner Number
validation and automated verification via the LRS ‘API’. Quartz is
compliant with Common Data Definitions (CDD).
- QCF Service Layer: Quartz includes fully integrated functionality to
manage the submission of results through the QCF Service Layer.
The underlying technical architecture of Quartz will enable
continued provision of integration with national systems as these
develop in the future. We are committed to ongoing development for
awarding bodies and expect to continue to be the first supplier to
achieve compliance tested integration in any new areas that arise.
Local integration
Integration can be implemented between Quartz and other internal
or external systems to meet specific client requirements. Examples
of integration implemented for our clients include:
- Finance integration
- Integration with a training scheduling system
- Automated transfer of results from an OMR system
- Integration with a public web-site
- Integration with, and enhancements for, an orders-management
system
- Integration with a specialised badge-making system
In each of the above cases significant efficiency and performance
benefits have been achieved, primarily by removing manual data entry
(and associated data entry errors) and by speeding up the flow of
information and hence the level of service provided.
e-Assessment
Quartz provides screens to manage the submission of e-assessment tests
and the receipt of corresponding results. The Quartz framework for
e-Assessment submission is currently being integrated with two leading
e-assessment systems and others will follow in-line with awarding
organisation needs.
